Do your school governors need training in order�to undertake their role effectively?

Becoming a school governor is not only a great honour, but also a great responsibility, and many new governors are not aware of the importance of their roles until they begin to take an active part in school meetings and proceedings.

It has been suggested that a small part of the governors’ meetings could be given over to governor training, and that headteachers and governors would appreciate practical and visual support to enable this training. The presentations are all succinct and are all provided with notes to support the deliverer; the aim is to deliver one presentation at a time, when the Governing Body feels it is needed. Local issues will, of course, influence what governors are asked to do and therefore the advice in the presentations has been kept as general as possible, while adhering to the rules laid out in statute.
